Single Day Sales Record Broken on Cyber Monday; 100 Percent Increase in Sales from the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend 2009
The popular online gallery, overstockArt.com, is pleased to announce its record Thanksgiving weekend and Cyber Monday sales. The company realized a 100 percent increase in sales from Thanksgiving weekend 2009 and broke its single day sales record on Cyber Monday, making November 29, 2010 the e-commerce site’s largest retail day in its history.
Revenue to overstockArt.com increased 98 percent, with order placements up by 74 percent over the holiday weekend. Overall traffic to http://www.overstockArt.com was up 50 percent.
“The holiday season is traditionally our busiest sales time of the year, but the numbers we saw over the holiday weekend and on Cyber Monday were overwhelming,” stated David Sasson, founder and CEO of overstockArt.com. “I think it’s fair to say that Santa will be delivering a good amount of fine art this year.”
Cyber Monday sales hit record levels across the board this year, making it the biggest day in e-commerce history. According to data published by the Internet tracking firm ComScore, Inc., Cyber Monday set a new one-day sales record, with total online sales for the day totaling $1.028 billion. That is 16 percent more than 2009 Cyber Monday sales of $887 million. The previous one-day high for online sales was December 15, 2009 with total sales at $913 million.
